Contoh Narrative text I 

-Please All and You Will Please None-

A man and his son were once going with their donkey to a market. As they were walking along, a countryman passed them and said "You fools, what is a donkey for but to ride upon?"



So the man put the boy on the donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said "See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides."

So the man had his boy get off, and got on himself. But they hadn't gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to other "Shame on that lazy lout to make his poor little son trudge along."
The man didn't know to do, but at last he took his boy up before him on the donkey. By this time they had come to the town and the passer-by began to jeer and point at them. The man stopped and asked what they were scoffing at. The men said "Aren't you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor donkey of yours-you and your hulking son?"

The man and boy got off and tried to think to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the donkey's feet to it, and raised the pole and the donkey to their shoulders. They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to a bridge, when the donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the donkey fell over the bridge, and so did the man and the boy.

Finally an old man who had followed them said, "that will teach you: please all and you will please none.

Terjemahan :

Seorang pria dan anaknya yang sedang pergi dengan keledainya ke pasar. Saat mereka berjalan bersama, orang bangsawan yang melewati mereka dan berkata "Kamu bodoh, untuk apa keledai tekalu tidak untuk dinaiki di atas?"

Jadi pria tersebut menaruh anaknya di atas keledai dan mereka melanjutkan perjalanan mereka. Tapi dengan segera mereka melewati sekelompok laki-laki, satu diantara mereka berkata "Lihat itu anak muda yang malas, ia membiarkan ayahnya berjalan sementara dia naik."

Jadi pria itu menurunkan anaknya, dan dia naik sendiri. Tapi saat mereka tidak pergi jauh ketika mereka melewati dua wanita, salah satunya berkata kepada yang lain "Memalukan, dasar pemalas, masak membuat anak kecilnya miskin berangkat/berjalan sepanjang jalan."
Pria itu tidak tahu yang harus dilakukan, tapi akhirnya ia mengambil anaknya naik di depannya di keledai. Pada saat itu mereka telah datang ke kota dan orang yang lewat mulai mengejek dan memusatkan perhatian pada mereka. Pria itu berhenti dan bertanya apa yang mereka ejek. Orang-orang berkata "Apakah kau tidak malu pada dirimu sendiri untuk menaiki keledaimu yang lemah dan menaikinya bersama anakmu?"

Pria dan anak laki-lakinya turun dan mencoba berpikir untuk berpikir apa yang harus dilakukan. Mereka pikir dan mereka pikir, sampai akhirnya mereka menebang tiang, diikat kaki keledai itu, dan mengangkat tiang dan keledai itu ke bahu mereka. Mereka pergi bersama di tengah tawa semua orang yang bertemu dengan mereka sampai mereka tiba di sebuah jembatan, saat keledai mendapatkan salah satu kakinya lepas, ditendang keluar dan menyebabkan anak itu jatuh dari tiang yang putus itu. Dalam perjuangan itu keledai juga jatuh di atas jembatan, dan begitu pula pria dan anak laki-laki.

Akhirnya seorang pria tua yang telah mengikuti mereka mengatakan, "yang akan mengajarkan Anda: Ikuti semuanya dan Anda tidak akan mendapatkan apa-apa."

Moral Value : "Be Your Self, Don't hear what the people said"

Contoh Narrative Text II :

One upon time, when a lion was a sleep, a little mouse began running up and down upon him, this soon awoke the lion, who placed his huge paw upon the mouse and opened his big jaws to swallow him.
"Pardon, O King" cried a little mouse "Forgive me this time, I shall never forget it. Who knows I may be able to do you a good turn of these days?"
The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the mouse being able to help him. Then he lifted up his paw and let him go.
One day the lion was caught in a trap. Some hunters who wanted to carry him alive to the king, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him in. Just then the little mouse happened to pass by and see the sad plight in which the lion was. The little mouse went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the king of the beast. Soon after the little mouse had finished gnawing away the ropes, he asked the lion to run away.

Terjemahan :

Dulu ada sebuah kisah, hidup seekor singa, ketika singa itu tidur, seekor tikus kecil mulai berjalan naik dan turun kepadanya, ini segera membangunkan singa, yang menempatkan kaki besarnya di atas tikus dan membuka rahangnya yang besar untuk menelannya.
"Ampun, Oh Raja" teriak seekor tikus kecil "maafkan aku kali ini, saya tidak akan pernah melupakannya. Siapa tahu aku mungkin dapat melakukan sesuatu yang baik untukmu di suatu hari?"
Singa itu begitu tertarik/tergelitik pada ide untuk bisa membantunya. Lalu ia mengangkat kaki dan membiarkan dia pergi.
Suatu hari singa itu tertangkap dalam perangkap. Beberapa pemburu yang ingin membawanya hidup-hidup kepada raja mereka, mengikatnya ke sebuah pohon sementara mereka pergi mencari sebuah gerobak untuk membawa dia masuk. Ketika tikus kecil kebetulan lewat dan melihat keadaan menyedihkan di mana singa itu. Tikus kecil mendekatinya dan segera menggerogoti tali yang mengikat raja binatang itu. Dengan segera setelah tikus kecil telah selesai menggerogoti tali, ia meminta singa untuk melarikan diri.

Moral Value : "Helping each other."
